Lighting the Way Reading Resources
Lighting the Way: An Advent Vigil: This Advent, we're offering something a little different.
Beginning December 1st and running through December 23rd, Lighting the Way invites you into a rhythm of daily prayer shaped by the ancient wisdom of Celtic Christianity. Each morning, a 30-minute video will be available on our YouTube channel, offering scripture, psalms, silence, and prayer to begin your day. And on Wednesday evenings throughout Advent, we'll gather (virtually) for a longer reflection centred on the Prayer of Examen.
Why Celtic? Because the Christians of early Ireland, Scotland, Wales and France knew something we need to remember: that the sacred is woven into the ordinary. They prayed while kindling fires and lying down to sleep. They saw God in the running wave, the quiet earth, the shining stars. Their faith was not an escape from daily life but a way of moving through it with attention and hope.
That feels like exactly what we need right now.
Daily Morning Prayer follows four weekly themes:
Wednesday Evening Reflections draw on the traditional Advent Wreath themes:
Each evening includes the Prayer of Examen, an ancient practice of reviewing the day in God's presence, noticing where light flickered (even if we missed it at the time), and looking toward tomorrow with renewed trust.
You don't need to watch every day. Come when you can. Let the rhythm find you where you are.
The link for the resources to read and follow along is available below. Printed copies will also be available at the church for those who prefer to pray offline or want something to hold in their hands.
In a season that often feels rushed and overwhelming, Lighting the Way is an invitation to slow down, pay attention, and watch for the light that is already breaking through.
"My soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning." — Psalm 130:6
