Passing of Joan Alma (Corbould) Sanderson
Dear St. Laurence, A beloved member of our community has died. Penny Holmes, Joan Sanderson's daughter, writes: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Joan (Corbould) Sanderson today November 17th, 2022, at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton at the age of 93. Mom (Joanie, Auntie Joan, G’ma, GG’ma, the Hot Sauce Granny (to name but a few)) was admitted to hospital on November 6th, with aspiration related pneumonia. She fought valiantly, although her health issues over the past year may have taken her strength, but certainly not her fighting spirit. Fiercely independent, she was in control to the end. She passed peacefully today with family at her side and the love of her 5 children and our spouses, 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, other family and friends from across Canada surrounding her. Following some health issues that started just about a year ago, mom chose to move to Edmonton this March, to be closer to family. It was her decision, but we are eternally grateful she did, as we supported her over these past few months. "True to her independent spirit and love of life, she passed on her own terms and the way she wanted it. Mom will be cremated, and her ashes interred at the Memory Garden at our long time Family Parish, St. Laurence Anglican Church in Coquitlam. The date is yet to be determined when the sun and flowers are out. We will certainly keep you informed. We thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers and kind words to mom over these past few months, either in person, by video or in messages. She truly appreciated them. Please feel free to advise those that we may have omitted today. Our love and best wishes to you all, Penny & Stewart, Frank & Susan, Ian & Sharon, Debbie & Marek, Margie & Jim and families." Please do keep the family in your prayers during this time. Peace, Eric
