Philip was born and raised on a farm in rural North Antrim, Northern Ireland, and has served as Rector of St Laurence, Coquitlam since December 2024. His ministry has taken him through parishes in England, Wales, and Vancouver, and he brings a passion for community, inclusion, and helping people discover that the treasure of the church is found not only within its walls but also in the wider community - especially among those who are poor, excluded, or overlooked.
He believes St Laurence is called to serve the Tri-Cities and the wider Diocese, fostering a church life that is Christ-centred, welcoming, and outward-looking. Philip draws on the richness of many Christian traditions - evangelical, charismatic, sacramental, and Catholic social teaching - and values the way each helps shape a generous and life-giving faith.
He regularly commutes to the parish by transit or bicycle, and he has two adult sons from a previous marriage who live in England. Known for his self-deprecating humour, creativity, and love of conversation, he is committed to helping people grow into their fullest potential in faith and in life.
